Every time I think about a new place to visit, it's important for me to identify one of the best thing to do in that place. I was curious to see the famous Navagio Beach (Shipwreck) but I was pleasantly surprised to find something else unique and beautiful.
If you travel with your dog, the only way to reach the Island is by boat (18hs).

August 2019 - 10 Days

WHY GO

Zante is not just an island with spectacular beaches:enjoy the extreme watersports , the local cuisine with high quality ingredientes.It is home to some of the most interesting histories and cultures in the world.Even today, the Greek myths and legends influence so much of our entertainment. The diverse landscape allows the imagination to run wild as you peer over steeps hills, climb massive mountains, and take idle strolls along the vast coastline.

WHEN TO GO

Zante is known for its warm and sunny climate that brings constant good weather to the island throughout the year. If you enjoy hot perfect sunny days the best time to visit Zante is between June and September. The hottest month of the year is July (34degrees). This is when the resort is at its busiest: if you enjoy the peace and nature in bloom, it is best to visit Zakynthos in the spring before the arrival of tourists.

Day 1 & 2 Keri Beach and South Island

We decided to stay 10days in one of the beautiful apartment in Keri as the feedback in tripadvisor and booking was good. If you prefer a place with pubs,disco and movida , better to book an hotel in Laganas.

Keri is a small and calm place with several restaurants : the best one is Katarina’s Allegro where the owner (Katarina) speaks few languages and come to you talking about the menu (combination of many home cooked Greek food super delicious) and each night a different musicians or singer.She joins them on vocals from time to time 🙂

Keri Beach is the best beach to visit , and if you go early in the morning you will see the dolphins! It’s very quiet and peaceful. There is an old man with fresh fruits and snacks, and few restaurants in the street.

Day 3 & 4 Navagio Shipwreck Beach & Blue Caves Tour

Book in advance the Navagio Shipwreck Beach and Blue Caves tour or if you have a car , go by yourself. There are 2 ways to see the Navagio Shipwreck

1)Walking to the wow point and make a memorable photo!

2) Reaching Schinari Port, a picturesque seaside port where a private boat will take you to see Shipwreck Bay (done the day after as the sea condition was not good the day before) but for this reason the photo (on the top) is perfect without any boats or people on the beach 🙂

The ship ran aground in a shallow cove on the northwest coast of Zakynthos, to the north of Porto Vromi, where the crew abandoned her to evade the pursuing Navy (October 1980)

It’s an amazing view with blue water , white sand and marble cliffs.

If you book the second way, after Navagio Beach, you will visit all blue caves inside with a wooden boat and you will have the chance to swim in the blue crystal waters of the area!

Day 5 West - beaches and scenic view

We decided to better explore the island in search of some famous beach and where to admire the sunset.

From Keri to Porto Limnionas it takes about 40 minutes by car : Porto Limnionas is one of the most pleasant swimming places in Zante, still wild as it’s quite hidden..It’s not a real beach but more a rocky bay with blue/esmerald water. There is a small square where you can park, and you stay here relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view (there are few loungers and umbrella so better to get there early).

We suggest to everybody and especially those who have their own boat, to visit Porto Roxa that is only 3 km from Porto Limnionas. It is another small bay with a slipway to put boats in the water in an beautiful part of coast.

Back to Keri, you could add a stop for a drink and sunset view in Keri Lighthouse.

It is possible to park the car in a no asphalted square and from where you can contemplate an incomparable view. The sight from this place will be an unforgettable moment of your holiday in Zakynthos: moving along the small lighthouse, you have the possibility to see, from the top of the cliff, the Mizitres (two huge rock cones with a deserted island rising from the blue sea and signing the beginning of the Kerì Caves.

Following a small path on the right , you can reach a small natural terrace.

If you would like to take a drink or eat something , there is restaurant and a small bar.

Day 6 & 7 South East - Cameo Island

In Keri Beach you can rent a small boat (no license / 40 HP) and you can easily reach the most beautiful beaches and small islands, like Marathonisi Beach where we found the Caretta Caretta turtles (please don’t touch/disturb them) and Cameo Island (reachable also by car – you can park for free at the parking lot located at the beginning of the wooden bridge) . Cameo Island is a beach bar where you can have a drink from 9.00 am until midnight, swimming in the crystal clear waters and admiring the sheets dancing in the wind. To access you pay a 5 euros and you also get a personalized souvenir (a key ring with your photo). On Thursday and Sunday paying 11 euros you are entitled to a drink and a souvenir.

Last 3 days Laganas - Gerakas - Paralia Vasilikos

If you want to visit there are still few beaches : Laganas is the most famous and busy resort in Zante and it’s particularly popular to youngsters as well as families. i suggest do not go in case you have children , I really didn’t like the athmosphere (fully different compared to the rest of the island). It’s largest beach on Zante, with a length of 9 km. Laganas is also known as the place where the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles lay their eggs, and for that reason Laganas beach is a part of the National Maritime Park of Zakynthos. Gerakas (the Southern beach of the island) is the most beautiful with a long sand toungue ending in a small promontory (from May to October there is the possibility to assist to the turtles’ eggs hatching and admire while trying to reach the sea).

Paralia Vasilikos (eastern side of Laganas) is composed by small beaches (the longest is Paralia Ionio – Banana Beach) and there is a popolar water sports center at Agios Nikolaos . For me, the best one remains Gerakas but it worth to visit all the other beaches.
