WHY GO
WHEN TO GO
Watamu - Sardegna 2
We spent most of the time relaxing on the beach – It’s not recommended to go outside especially for two girls. Kenya is safe but you need to take the right precautions. Our resort (Jumbo Watamu) is close to the famous Sardegna 2 : a wonderful atoll, surrounded by starfish, puffers and many other colorful fish.
During the day, tons of tourist comes here as it’s one of the main excursion in Watamu!
And yes, beach boys are here 🙂
At the beginning they will ask you few dollars / euro and they will propose you excursions (we decided to book Safari and Blue Safari directly with the resort).
If you stay at Jambo Resort, better to visit Sardegna due with the beach boys as they know where to go and how to reach safely the atoll!
We came there few times (once with their typical boat).
Blue Safari: Mangrove Island
Click here if you want to check the one-day Blue Safari on a boat at the Mangrove Island and Garoda Beach, ideal for those who want to see the most beautiful sea in Kenya.
The first stop is inside the Watamu Marine National Park to be able to snorkel and to see beautiful and colorful fishes!
Relax in the sun on the top deck and try to spot dolphins (if you are lucky you could even swim with them).
The marine protected area in Watamu is also recognized internationally as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The park is also home to 3 species of sea turtles who nest on the beaches.
After snorkeling, head over to the white sandy beaches where you will be allowed to step off the boat for a swim in the crystal clear blue waters for a while.
You will reach Sudi Island where you can enjoy the views of the lush green mangroves along the creek side ( you’ll receive a warm welcome and little entertainment with the famous song ‘Jambo Bwana’) . Here you will enjoy a seafood lunch (lobster, grilled fish) and then take a guided canoe ride into the mangrove forest (bring few dollars for the beach boys).
Safari - TSAVO East
I must admit, we were somewhat anxious about what to expect before our journey began. We had read so many wonderful travel blogs about safaris and I’m thrilled to say that our experience mirrored those other blogs.
It was amazing!
Our trip covered the Tsavo East National Park , one of the largest national parks in Kenya.
Here you can admire the famous red elephants of Tsavo (which have a reddish body because of the dark sand that they apply on their bodies to protect them from insects) and plenty of opportunity to see lots of animals such as zebras, antelopes, lions, buffalos, leopards, giraffes and also a variety of different types of bird species.
If you visit Tsavo east then I’d recommend staying one night at Salt Lick lodge where the rooms are on stilts. They have a salt water pond where what seem to be hundreds of elephants come and drink from it every night. They are only an arms reach away.
